Vokarys, for atypical speech
Speech recognition is trained on voices it has heard often. People whose speech falls outside that norm — through a neurological condition, a stroke, surgery, a strong regional accent — get the worst results from the systems everyone else takes for granted. Vokarys is our attempt to narrow that gap: a desktop dictation app that adapts to how one particular person speaks, with recognition running locally on their own computer.
We rebuilt it recently, and it is honest to say it works best in English today. That is where the data is. The reason we are doing this at all is the languages that come next — Czech and the other European languages, where speakers with atypical speech have far less to choose from. That work is under way, and we make no promises about dates.
